Advisable Specifications (Depending on condition)

Treat the following items as suspect, and assume they will need replacing - Also weigh up time needed for thorough inspection against the cost of an available replacement

 

Replace All bearings, valve guides, springs, timing chains etc

Some silent chain pitch can be very hard to come by

 

 

Crack / Pressure test cylinder head / block (essential on an unknown engine), crankshaft & con rods -   Do not assume that, for example: a second hand block is crack free and will hold water just because the person selling it has given it a nice new coat of paint!

Regrind crankshaft

          

Left - 2 "large" reground cranks - a 14 litre Le France and a Blackstone   Right - Machining Blackstone big end for conversion to white metal

 

 

White metal (in Hoyt's 11R or 11Z3) mains & big end bearings, line bore & fit (unless shell or roller bearings fitted)

Reface flywheel / Fit new starter ring gear

        

Left - A refaced flywheel and re-lined clutch  Right - old compared with new starter ring gears

 

 

Rebore / hone cylinders – fit liners if required

   

Left - Austin 7 Liners          Right - Liners fitted to block and bored to size

 

 

Rebuild or replace oil pump as necessary

Rebush small ends to fit new gudgeon pins as required
